We would like to inform you that the mobile network providers in Germany, such as Telekom, Vodafone and also O2, will switch off the 3G/UMTS mobile network from mid-2021.
At the operators Telekom and Vodafone, the discontinuation of the 3G service is fixed for June 30, 2021, at O2 by the end of the year. The frequency range that will become available as a result of the UMTS switch-off is earmarked for the expansion and extension of the LTE network (4G and 5G). Mobile providers in other countries have also already started or are planning the 3G switch-off.
End devices that support 3G/UMTS technology at most will fall back to the slower 2G network standard.
In addition to many products in the consumer sector, remote maintenance routers are also affected. In the future, these devices will only be able to use data services with very low speed and data transmission requirements with 2G. For remote maintenance, this means that even under ideal conditions there is only a very small chance of being able to perform remote maintenance. In order to be able to ensure smooth and safe operation of your systems, we recommend the use of an LTE router.
Please check in good time in your machines and plants whether the remote maintenance routers used there are affected by the 3G shutdown!
Our technical sales department will be happy to assist you in selecting the appropriate antennas and routers to ensure that your systems remain reachable via remote maintenance in a future-proof manner.
