The managed FLEXtra PROFINET switch can be used to network PROFINET components at 100 Mbps as well as Ethernet nodes at up to 1000 Mbps - optionally also via SFP fiber optics. Thus, communication from the control level and the machine or the mixing of Ethernet and PROFINET components in one switch is possible. Backups of industrial PCs (IPC), live streams from webcams and edge gateways benefit from the increased bandwidth.

Each port of the PROFINET switch can be parameterized individually. This includes the transmission rate, topology detection (LLDP), automatic addressing (DCP), media redundancy (MRP) and much more.
Diagnostics and Connection Monitoring
Diagnostic alarms can be sent via PROFINET for network monitoring. The diagnostic LEDs on the front of the device and the status page of the web interface support troubleshooting at the control cabinet.

Setting up Fail-Safe PROFINET Networks Through Media Redundancy
The "Media Redundancy Protocol" (MRP) can be used to install ring cabling that allows the PROFINET network to operate even if a cable or a node fails. A PROFINET switch sends diagnostic messages to the PLC in the event of connection interruptions. Conventional unmanaged switches do not support this function in PROFINET.

Helmholz SFP Transceiver
for Correct Cabling and Diagnostics
Both SM "Single Mode" and MM "Multi Mode" SFP modules with 1000 Mbit/s transmission rate are supported. Any SFP modules from various manufacturers can be used. However, if the recommended Helmholz SFP modules are configured, the FLEXtra PROFINET switch checks whether exactly the configured SFP module has been plugged into the specified port. In case of a missing SFP module or a SFP module of a different type, a diagnosis is triggered. Thus a wrong configuration or a wrong cabling can be detected easily.
Smart Managed — Web Interface for Status Display and Configuration of the Ports.
The status of the FLEXtra PROFINET switch can be queried via the web interface. Firmware updates, management function and many other settings are done via a comfortable and tidy interface.

Network SStructures with VLANs
A VLAN separates physical networks into subnets by ensuring that VLAN-capable switches do not forward data packets to another VLAN. Devices logically connected via a VLAN remain among themselves. The use of VLANs in large physical networks is useful for controlling data traffic and securing access rights to devices. The FLEXtra PROFINET switch supports VLANs, both tagged and untagged, and can operate as a VLAN active and VLAN inactive device.
